Starship Engineer, FOD Control
About this role
SpaceX seeks a Starship Engineer to lead Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention and control across Starship production, developing processes and tooling that ensure quality while scaling manufacturing rate. You will own compliance with aerospace standards, collaborate with design and production teams, and drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis and process automation.
What you'll do
- Own FOD control strategy and ensure compliance with AS9146 aerospace standards across Starship production facilities
- Partner with design engineering to apply Design for Manufacturability and cleanliness principles to flight hardware and vehicle architecture
- Develop and enforce manufacturing, assembly, welding, and checkout processes including tool tracking and kitting protocols
- Design precision tooling and poka-yoke systems to prevent errors, FOD introduction, and minimize cycle time
- Evaluate and integrate automated FOD detection systems, radar, and mechanical sweeping into production environments
- Conduct quality audits, contain non-conformances, and drive corrective actions to manage fleet risk
