About this role

Coinbase seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead AI-driven legal automation initiatives. You'll partner directly with Legal leadership to architect production-grade AI systems that transform high-volume workflows, from document processing to institutional agreements, while ensuring auditability, human oversight, and compliance.

What you'll do

  • Embed with Legal leadership to understand workflows and identify high-impact automation opportunities
  • Design and ship production-grade AI agents with auditability, observability, and human-in-the-loop safeguards
  • Own the Legal automation roadmap in partnership with VP of Legal and CCO
  • Define build-vs-buy strategy for Legal tooling and evaluate internal vs. external solutions
  • Serve as technical thought partner to Legal leadership, surfacing engineering risks and aligning priorities
  • Translate complex legal workflows into engineering requirements and platform primitives
