About this role

Defense Unicorns seeks a Platform Engineer to build and maintain cloud-based Kubernetes infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines for a government contractor. This remote role combines DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering responsibilities, requiring hands-on expertise in cloud platforms, infrastructure as code, and containerization.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain Kubernetes clusters and containerized deployments across AWS, EKS, and RKE2
  • Develop and manage infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform to provision platform resources consistently
  • Own CI/CD pipelines including GitLab CI configuration, runner deployments, and automated workflows
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging systems to ensure platform health and support incident investigation
  • Manage certificate lifecycle operations and support container security practices including Iron Bank compliance
  • Collaborate with application teams on deployment troubleshooting and contribute to documentation and operational standards
