About this role

Diligent is seeking a Fleet Engineer in Austin to investigate and resolve reliability issues across deployed robotic systems. You'll conduct hands-on failure analysis, perform root-cause investigations, and drive corrective actions across hardware, software, and operations teams while supporting field technicians.

What you'll do

  • Lead triage and bench/lab failure analysis on mobile bases, charging systems, motion/power, connectivity, and sensors
  • Perform root-cause analysis using structured methodologies (5-why, FMEA, 8D) across electrical, mechanical, and firmware domains
  • Extract and analyze fleet data and logs to identify trends, validate hypotheses, and define problem statements
  • Convert field-technician reports into clear problem statements and provide on-call support to minimize downtime
  • Drive corrective actions to completion across engineering, operations, manufacturing, and vendor partners
  • Design test fixtures, instrumentation, and bench setups to accelerate debugging workflows

What they're looking for

  • Electrical debugging (schematics, multimeter, oscilloscope, power analysis)
  • Mechanical debugging (mechanisms, tolerances, dimensional measurement, mechanical drawings)
  • System log analysis and event reconstruction
  • Hypothesis-driven quantitative analysis and statistical reasoning
  • Root-cause analysis methodologies (FMEA, 5-why, fishbone, 8D)
  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication
  • Robotics or autonomous systems experience
  • Hardware instrumentation and test infrastructure design

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a time you debugged a complex electro-mechanical failure in the field. How did you move from initial symptoms to root cause, and what tools or methodologies did you use?
  • Describe your experience analyzing system logs or telemetry data to diagnose failures. How do you account for confounding factors and determine whether you have enough data to draw a conclusion?
