DoorDash USA
Embedded SW Test Engineer
About this role
DoorDash seeks an experienced Embedded SW Test Engineer to design and operate hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure, automate firmware regression testing, and execute fault-injection campaigns for safety-critical embedded systems. You'll bridge firmware, hardware, and test automation to ensure embedded software reliability before deployment.
What you'll do
- Design and build automated HIL and SIL test benches combining real hardware, simulation, and custom fixtures for firmware validation
- Integrate regression test suites into CI/CD pipelines to automatically exercise firmware changes on hardware
- Design and execute fault-injection campaigns (sensor faults, bus dropouts, power anomalies) and verify fault-management responses
- Build test instrumentation and tooling for signal injection, bus traffic generation/monitoring, telemetry capture, and log analysis
- Convert field and flight-test data into reproducible regression tests and root-cause issues on benches
- Contribute to DFMEA analysis, manufacturing test suites, and board bring-up validation
What they're looking for
- Python for test automation and tooling
- C/C++ for reading and instrumenting embedded software
- ARM Cortex-M microcontroller firmware testing (STM32)
- Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test setup design and operation
- Embedded protocols: CAN/CAN-FD, UART, I2C, SPI
- Lab instrumentation: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers (JTAG/SWD, pyOCD, OpenOCD, J-Link)
- Git, CMake, CI systems (GitHub Actions, Buildkite)
- Schematic reading and basic soldering
Benefits
- 401(k) plan with employer matching
- 16 weeks of paid parental leave
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Flexible paid time off plus 80 hours annual paid sick time
- 11 paid holidays, disability and life insurance
- Mental health program and family-forming assistance

- Describe a HIL test bench you've built—what hardware, simulation, and fixtures did you integrate, and how did it improve firmware reliability?
- Walk us through a fault-injection campaign you designed: which faults did you inject, how did you verify firmware responses, and what defects did you catch?
