About this role

Ema seeks an experienced Platform Engineer to design and operate scalable, multi-tenant microservices infrastructure on Kubernetes across major cloud providers. You'll own the backend systems foundation that enable the company's Agentic AI platform, making critical architectural decisions around consistency, latency, and reliability while leading DevOps practices and on-call operations.

What you'll do

  • Design and evolve multi-tenant microservices architectures on Kubernetes across GCP, Azure, and AWS with isolation and resource management
  • Build core platform components in Golang and Python including data ingestion, vector search, and workflow automation against explicit SLOs
  • Own service-to-service communication via gRPC, service mesh (Istio/Linkerd), and implement reliability patterns like retries and circuit breaking
  • Design observability stack using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and distributed tracing with real-time alerting
  • Define reliability contracts through SLIs/SLOs, capacity planning, autoscaling, and graceful degradation strategies
  • Lead DevOps practices with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), Helm, GitOps, and CI/CD pipelines; participate in on-call rotations

What they're looking for

  • Golang and Python
  • Kubernetes and Docker
  • Microservices architecture and distributed systems
  • Multi-cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS)
  • Database design (SQL, NoSQL, graph stores) and optimization
  • Service mesh (Istio, Linkerd) and gRPC
  • Observability and monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
  • Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps (Terraform, ArgoCD, Helm)

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through how you've designed a multi-tenant Kubernetes system—what isolation mechanisms did you use and what tradeoffs did you make?
  • Describe a time you had to choose between strong and eventual consistency for a core platform component. What factors influenced that decision and how did you measure the impact?
