Etched

Power Integrity Engineer

San JosefulltimemidAdded today

About this role

Etched is seeking a Power Integrity Engineer to design and validate power delivery networks for high-performance AI inference ASICs and systems. You'll own PDN methodology from architecture through production, ensuring robust power delivery across complex multi-rail designs using industry-standard EDA tools.

What you'll do

  • Perform pre- and post-layout PDN analysis including target impedance profiling, decoupling capacitor optimization, and plane resonance mitigation
  • Execute DC IR-drop and current density simulations to define PCB specifications for copper weight, via stitching, and layer allocation
  • Conduct AC impedance analysis across the full power delivery chain from VRM output through package and die with ESR/ESL modeling
  • Develop and validate VRM models, analyzing transient response, load-line behavior, and multiphase converter performance
  • Support hardware bring-up and debug rail-level issues with root-cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with power design, layout, and ASIC teams to define power delivery architecture and establish design guidelines

What they're looking for

  • Power integrity (PDN) analysis and target impedance methodology
  • EDA tools: Ansys SIwave, Cadence Sigrity PowerDC/PowerSI, or Cadence Allegro
  • DC IR-drop and AC impedance analysis across multiple frequency ranges
  • VRM fundamentals: buck converters, multiphase design, transient response, and load-line control
  • Multi-layer PCB stack-up design and power plane optimization
  • High-current ASIC/CPU/GPU power delivery systems
  • Python or MATLAB scripting for simulation automation
  • Thermal-electrical co-simulation and thermal tradeoff analysis

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage with $500/month credit for waiving medical
  • Housing subsidy of $2,000 per month for those within walking distance of office
  • Relocation support for those relocating to San Jose
  • Wellness benefits including fitness and mental health programs
  • Daily lunch and dinner provided at office
  • Unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through your approach to defining target impedance and validating a decoupling network across frequency ranges for a high-current ASIC power rail.
  • Describe a time you debugged a power integrity issue on a live board—what was the problem and how did you correlate simulation to hardware measurements?
