About this role
Field AI seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design, validate, and support mechanical systems for autonomous robotic platforms operating in demanding field environments. You'll work across the full lifecycle from CAD design through production, collaborating with electrical and software teams to deliver ruggedized, integrated solutions.
What you'll do
- Design mechanical structures, enclosures, mounts, and chassis using CAD and simulation tools
- Implement ingress protection, thermal management, and ensure adherence to mass/volume budgets
- Conduct FEA, thermal simulations, and mechanical testing (shock, vibration, environmental exposure)
- Support production by working with manufacturers, developing QA processes, and debugging field failures
- Generate technical documentation including drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and assembly instructions
- Collaborate across electrical, compute, and systems teams to integrate mechanical systems with sensors and electronics
What they're looking for
- SolidWorks or equivalent mechanical CAD
- FEA and thermal modeling analysis
- Design for manufacturing (DFM, DFA, DFS)
- Mechanical testing and debugging
- Materials and component selection
- Ingress protection and environmental sealing
- Systems integration across mechanical, electrical, and software domains
- Knowledge of CNC, sheet metal, and additive manufacturing
