About this role

Field AI seeks a Mechanical Engineering co-op intern to design and implement mechanical systems for autonomous robotics hardware, including ruggedized enclosures, thermal management, and sensor integration. You'll work across the full lifecycle from CAD and simulation through prototyping, testing, and production support in a fast-moving hardware team.

What you'll do

  • Design mechanical structures, enclosures, and mounts using CAD and validate with FEA/thermal simulations
  • Implement ingress protection solutions with gaskets, seals, and coatings for real-world field environments
  • Develop thermal management strategies including heat sinks, fans, and airflow optimization
  • Conduct mechanical testing (shock, vibration, thermal cycling) and prototype rapid iterations
  • Collaborate with electrical and compute engineers to integrate mechanical systems with sensors and power electronics
  • Support manufacturing, QA, vendor coordination, and debug mechanical failures in deployed systems
