Software Engineer III, Device Connectivity

Remote - USA (Remote)$130k–$160kfulltimemidAdded today

About this role

Flock is seeking a Software Engineer III to architect and optimize cellular connectivity for edge camera devices deployed across outdoor environments. You'll advance their Android-based system stack through a 5G upgrade roadmap, manage low-level OS initialization, and ensure fleet stability under strict power constraints in challenging field conditions.

What you'll do

  • Develop and optimize AOSP cellular connectivity stack for LTE/5G modems, Radio Interface Layer, and eSIM configurations
  • Engineer low-level Android OS initialization, image partitioning, file systems, and SELinux security policies
  • Analyze device telemetry and network metrics to diagnose fleet connectivity anomalies across hardware and RF environments
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Product, and Infrastructure teams on power-aware connectivity solutions for extreme conditions
  • Debug real-world RF edge cases and deploy firmware directly to physical camera fleets
  • Optimize cellular performance while managing battery constraints for edge deployment

What they're looking for

  • AOSP internals and low-level Android OS architecture
  • Cellular networking stacks (LTE, 5G modems, RIL, AT commands)
  • SELinux security policies and permissions management
  • TCP/IP, routing protocols, Wi-Fi architectures, and data optimization
  • Embedded systems and OS-level development
  • Qualcomm chipsets and cellular telemetry analysis
  • Device driver development and kernel debugging
  • C/C++ and Linux systems programming

Benefits

  • Stock options
  • Competitive base salary aligned with experience and market rates
  • Remote work opportunity (USA-based)
  • Collaborative cross-functional team environment
  • Work on high-impact safety infrastructure
