About this role
GovWell is seeking a Payments Engineer to design and build the financial backbone of their AI-powered government services platform. You'll architect a ledger system handling real money with strict audit requirements, working directly with the CTO in a high-autonomy role shaping an entirely new domain.
What you'll do
- Design and build an auditable, mathematically consistent ledger system for municipal financial transactions
- Develop precise fee calculation and payment processing systems replacing manual government workflows
- Architect support for partial payments, deposits, and refunds as core platform features
- Lead migration of payment systems from legacy platforms to new infrastructure without service disruption
- Partner with finance teams and municipal staff to ensure system reliability and compliance
- Establish technical standards and best practices for financial systems across the engineering team
