About this role
Hadrian seeks a Tooling Engineer to design and optimize forge tooling systems for aerospace and defense components across various pressing methods. You'll conduct simulations, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and lead commissioning of custom production tooling while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
What you'll do
- Design structural and mechanical forge tooling for ferrous and non-ferrous aerospace components using mechanical, hydraulic, screw, and horizontal hot forming processes
- Conduct FEA, flow simulations, and die stress analyses to validate designs under real-world conditions
- Collaborate with engineers, vendors, and technicians to source, build, deploy, and optimize forge tooling systems
- Document technical specifications, usage guides, and safety procedures; ensure OSHA and lifting compliance
- Lead testing, validation, iteration, and commissioning of custom production forge tooling and machinery
- Support automated forge tooling integration with controls engineers for tool changeover and exchange
What they're looking for
- Forge tooling design and metallurgy
- FEA and die stress analysis (ANSYS, DEFORM, Forge, Q-Form)
- 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX)
- Bulk deformation and hot forming processes
- Tool steel selection, fabrication, and heat treatment
- Hand calculations and analytical techniques
- OSHA compliance and safety requirements
- Material behavior for forging and extrusion
Likely interview questions
- Walk us through a forge tooling design project where you optimized tool life or production rates—what was your approach?
- Describe your experience with FEA or die stress analysis tools and how you've used simulation to validate tooling designs.
