Hardware Reliability Engineer, Electrical (Starshield)

Hawthorne, CA$105k–$122.5kmidAdded 1 month ago

About this role

SpaceX seeks a Hardware Reliability Engineer to ensure Starshield satellite electrical systems perform reliably in orbit. You'll conduct failure analysis, validate robustness through testing, and collaborate across teams to improve PCB design and manufacturing processes for government national security applications.

What you'll do

  • Perform detailed failure analysis on satellite hardware to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Use design schematics and test equipment to determine failure physics and mechanisms
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to enhance reliability and processes
  • Work with test engineers to improve test coverage, reduce false failures, and prevent escapes
  • Monitor yield rates and quality metrics, driving actions for non-conforming products
  • Conduct benchtop environmental testing (thermal, vibration, HALT/HASS) to validate product robustness

What they're looking for

  • Failure analysis and root cause investigation
  • Digital and mixed-signal circuit troubleshooting
  • Environmental testing (HALT, HASS, thermal, vibration, TVAC)
  • Test equipment operation (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies)
  • Programming for test automation (Python, C, C++)
  • Quality tools (Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, corrective action)
  • RF electronics or power electronics experience
  • Digital communications interfaces (SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet)

Benefits

  • Base salary: $105,000–$150,000 (Level 1-2) depending on experience
  • Long-term incentives including company stock and cash awards
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan with potential company matching
  • Paid parental leave and disability insurance
