About this role
IEM seeks an experienced R&D Mechanical Engineer to design, test, and certify innovative medium voltage electrical distribution products. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage product development from concept through certification, with opportunities to work across multiple locations.
What you'll do
- Execute New Product Introduction (NPI) engineering initiatives for assigned projects
- Develop engineering specifications, concept drawings, and detailed 3D models with SolidWorks
- Coordinate with testing laboratories (NRTLs) to define certification scope and evaluate test results
- Create and document comprehensive test plans including thermal, dielectric, mechanical, and seismic testing
- Support laboratory testing activities (up to 20% travel) and analyze empirical data to refine designs
- Implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) concepts and conduct failure analyses for continuous improvement

- SolidWorks 3D modeling and CAD
- NRTL testing and certification processes (UL, CSA)
- Electrical equipment standards (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20)
