Software Engineer 3
About this role
MongoDB is seeking a Software Engineer 3 to build developer tooling and quality infrastructure for AI agents, including evaluation systems, CLI tools, CI/CD integration, and safety gates. You'll own the platform layer for authoring, distributing, and improving agent skills across the organization.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain agent skills infrastructure, validation frameworks, and publishing pipelines
- Design evaluation datasets and workflows that measure agent behavior against baselines and generate quality signals
- Develop agent metrics and observability systems for skill routing, outcomes, tool calls, latency, and token usage
- Create safety and quality gates for agent-authored content using rule packs, static analysis, and confidence thresholds
- Build CLIs, libraries, and MCP integrations adopted across repositories for local development and CI
- Investigate production failures and convert findings into reusable improvements and anti-pattern detection
What they're looking for
- Production software development and internal platforms
- CLI and library design for developer usability
- Test infrastructure, static analysis, and CI/CD workflows
- API design with strong error handling and maintainability

Likely interview questions
- Describe a time you built developer tooling or internal platform that gained adoption across teams—what made it successful?
- How would you approach designing an evaluation system that distinguishes true improvements from noise in agent behavior?
