Prototype Engineer
About this role
Observable Space seeks a Prototype Engineer for their Los Angeles facility to operate advanced machining equipment and collaborate with engineering teams on complex precision parts for space technology applications. This full-time, hourly role involves CNC operations, CAM programming, design-for-manufacturability feedback, and occasional on-call support for urgent fabrication needs.
What you'll do
- Operate 5-axis CNC mills, lathes, 3D printers, lasers, waterjets, and wire EDM equipment
- Prepare CAM programs in Mastercam, Fusion 360, and similar software from technical drawings
- Participate in design reviews and provide manufacturability feedback to engineering teams
- Design and build custom fixturing, jigs, and assemblies for rapid prototyping
- Interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, and SolidWorks models to produce high-tolerance parts
- Maintain, upgrade, and tune shop equipment and infrastructure
