About this role

OpenAI's Industrial Compute team is seeking a Civil Engineer to lead civil engineering strategy for hyperscale AI data center campuses. You'll own site development and structural design decisions, partner with external consultants and internal teams, and establish scalable, modular standards that accelerate construction timelines and reduce costs across their self-build portfolio.

What you'll do

  • Lead civil engineering strategy and technical direction for site development across multiple AI campus projects
  • Optimize grading, earthwork, drainage, foundations, utility routing, and constructability to reduce schedule and cost
  • Develop and enforce structural standards for high floor loading, vibration control, and long-term durability
  • Partner with external engineering consultants and EPC firms to review designs and drive continuous improvement
  • Establish modular and prefabricated engineering approaches to improve repeatability and deployment speed
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Power, Cooling, and Infrastructure Delivery teams throughout design and construction phases
