Forward Deployed Engineer, Gov

About this role

Lead hands-on deployments of OpenAI's frontier AI models for strategic government and defense customers. You'll embed with agencies to design, build, and scale full-stack solutions that deliver measurable mission impact, while shaping OpenAI's product roadmap through field insights.

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end technical delivery of AI deployments in production government environments
• Design and build novel LLM-powered applications tailored to customer mission needs
• Prototype full-stack systems using Python, JavaScript, or equivalent technologies
• Manage customer relationships and guide stakeholders on maximizing operational value
• Scope work, sequence delivery, and remove technical blockers in ambiguous contexts
• Capture and codify deployment patterns to inform OpenAI's product and research teams

• Full-stack software development (Python, JavaScript, or similar)
• Cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform)
• LLM and generative AI system design and deployment
• Technical project scoping and delivery management
• Government and compliance requirements knowledge
• Cross-functional communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Problem-solving under ambiguity and time pressure
• Infrastructure and observability (monitoring, logging, reliability)
