PCBA Manufacturing Engineer
About this role
OpenAI seeks a PCBA Manufacturing Engineer to support sustaining production and continuous improvement of printed circuit board assemblies for AI infrastructure hardware. You'll drive root cause investigations, partner with design and manufacturing teams, optimize yields, and resolve production issues across hyperscale platforms.
What you'll do
- Own sustaining manufacturing engineering for PCBA production across multiple hardware platforms
- Drive root cause investigations for manufacturing defects, field failures, and production escapes
- Partner with Hardware Design Engineers to improve manufacturability and support engineering change orders
- Work directly with contract manufacturers to improve production yield, cycle time, and quality
- Develop corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for manufacturing and supplier quality issues
- Collaborate with Test Engineering and support failure analysis activities across electrical, functional, and process domains

- High-volume PCBA manufacturing and SMT process expertise
- Root cause analysis methodologies (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, FMEA)
- Manufacturing process control and yield improvement with statistical analysis
- Schematic, BOM, assembly drawing, and manufacturing documentation interpretation
- Cross-functional communication and project management
- Contract manufacturer relationship management and global supply chain coordination
- ICT, Flying Probe, Boundary Scan, and Functional Test knowledge
- IPC standards familiarity (IPC-A-610, IPC-6012, IPC-7711/7721)
