About this role

OpenAI's Hardware team seeks a Physical Design Engineer to develop tools, flows, and methodologies for optimizing next-generation AI accelerator silicon. You'll own physical implementation from floorplanning through signoff, collaborating with RTL designers to achieve optimal power, performance, and area trade-offs.

What you'll do

  • Develop and own physical design tools, flows, and methodologies for implementation
  • Execute block-level physical implementation from floorplanning to final signoff
  • Partner with RTL designers to define and optimize block implementation strategies
  • Analyze and optimize designs for timing, power, and area convergence
  • Collaborate with EDA vendors and ASIC partners on design optimization
  • Drive improvements in team productivity and design quality
