About this role

Astral seeks an experienced software engineer to design and maintain high-performance developer tools in Rust and Python, including projects like Ruff and uv that power the Python ecosystem. You'll contribute to open source projects, support community maintainance, and build next-generation tooling to accelerate development velocity at OpenAI.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement features in open source projects (Ruff, uv, ty, python-build-standalone)
  • Maintain open source projects by triaging issues, reviewing pull requests, and engaging with community
  • Evolve the Astral toolchain to improve development workflows at OpenAI
  • Build new tools across different programming ecosystems for agentic software development
  • Ensure security, reliability, and operational excellence in tooling systems
  • Lead complex projects from problem definition through user impact
