Software Engineer, Private Computing

About this role

OpenAI seeks a Software Engineer to design and implement privacy-focused infrastructure using confidential computing and end-to-end encryption across ChatGPT, API, and consumer devices. You'll balance complex technical trade-offs while shipping fast and collaborating across product, security, and safety teams.

What you'll do

• Design and build core abstractions for trusted execution environments and encryption systems
• Develop private inference and storage features for ChatGPT, API, and future consumer devices
• Enhance build systems to improve trust and verifiability
• Integrate privacy infrastructure with safety and integrity systems
• Operate systems at scale with high reliability, including on-call support
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across product, engineering, security, and policy
