Path Robotics

Perception Engineer

Columbus, OhiomidAdded yesterday

About this role

Path Robotics seeks a Perception Engineer to design and deploy real-time computer vision pipelines that close control loops on embedded robotic hardware. You'll own the entire perception stack—from sensor input through geometric estimation to control system outputs—with emphasis on robustness in degraded imagery and honest uncertainty quantification.

What you'll do

  • Build end-to-end real-time perception pipelines optimized for embedded hardware with strict latency and computational budgets
  • Develop robust vision algorithms for segmentation and feature extraction on degraded or intentionally obstructed imagery
  • Create uncertainty-aware estimates that reliably signal when confidence is low, preventing dangerous misestimates in closed-loop control
  • Perform geometric estimation and 3D registration against known models, recovering object pose from partial and imperfect sensor data
  • Evaluate and benchmark sensing hardware options through controlled experiments, documenting trade-offs with measured data
  • Set technical direction as the perception system evolves toward learned methods and deep learning integration

What they're looking for

  • Real-time computer vision and 3D geometry (camera calibration, triangulation, registration, error propagation)
  • Production C++ and ROS 2
  • GPU-accelerated inference deployment on embedded systems with frame-rate budgets
  • Real-time segmentation and feature extraction on degraded imagery
  • Hardware evaluation and experimental design
  • Uncertainty quantification and statistical measurement validation
  • Latency profiling and performance optimization across the full sensor-to-control chain
  • Classical vision fundamentals with hands-on deployed experience

Benefits

  • Daily free lunch and team connection
  • Flexible PTO
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 6 weeks fully paid parental leave (12–14 weeks for birthing parents)
  • 401(k) retirement plan through Empower
  • Generous employee referral bonuses

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a real-time vision system you've deployed on hardware—what was the end-to-end latency, how did you measure it, and what were the bottlenecks?
  • Describe a time you had to extract reliable measurements from degraded or low-contrast imagery. How did you validate accuracy independently?
