About this role
Redwood Materials seeks a Battery Software Integration Engineer to design and implement software solutions that integrate diverse, second-life automotive battery packs into grid-scale energy storage systems. You'll act as the primary technical liaison with OEM partners, developing translation layers and containerized applications that bridge legacy automotive hardware with modern, scalable software infrastructure.
What you'll do
- Lead technical partnerships with tier-1 OEM suppliers to decode firmware and negotiate integration solutions for second-life batteries
- Design and deploy software gateways and translation layers that enable seamless integration of vendor and OEM battery packs into centralized systems
- Develop containerized applications using Rust and Python to handle BMS communication, data parsing, and fault management on Linux
- Serve as the primary software POC for external OEMs, guiding critical technical discussions on battery system adaptation
- Move infrastructure from hardware-centric to software-defined energy storage architecture
- Ensure diverse battery packs operate reliably off-vehicle within the grid storage ecosystem
