About this role
Redwood Materials seeks a Test Automation Engineering Intern to develop Python-based test automation systems for battery hardware and firmware validation. You'll work on production test stands, instrument control drivers, and CI pipelines while debugging real hardware failures alongside experienced engineers.
What you'll do
- Write and maintain Python test automation using pytest and internal frameworks for firmware and hardware validation
- Develop drivers and tooling to control programmable power supplies, electronic loads, and data acquisition hardware via SCPI, CAN, and Modbus protocols
- Assist with bringing up new test stands from fixtures and wiring through software sequencing
- Investigate and debug failures by analyzing CAN traces and instrument logs to identify root causes in test code, fixtures, or units under test
- Expand CI pipelines with regression test coverage to automate firmware validation
- Own a scoped project end-to-end and present results to the engineering team
