About this role
ALSO is seeking Battery Design Engineers to architect and deliver integrated electromechanical battery systems for small electric vehicles, from concept through production. You'll own complex subsystems or full packs, balancing thermal, structural, electrical, and manufacturing constraints while collaborating closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
What you'll do
- Own battery pack hardware from concept through prototype, validation, and production launch
- Design and integrate enclosures, busbars, cooling systems, PCBAs, connectors, and structural components with competing constraints
- Create production-ready 2D drawings, tolerance strategies, and engineering releases for complex 3D assemblies
- Conduct first-principles analysis and rapid concept down-selection through prototyping and testing
- Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers on tooling, process development, and production ramp
- Root-cause and resolve manufacturing and field issues across mechanical, thermal, and electrical domains
What they're looking for
- 3D CAD modeling (CATIA V6/3DX preferred)
- GD&T and production-quality 2D drawing release
- Thermal and structural FEA (Ansys, Altair)
- Manufacturing processes (welding, stamping, molding, adhesives, mechanical joining)
- First-principles thermal, structural, and electrical analysis
- Hands-on prototyping and lab debugging
- Lithium-ion battery fundamentals and pack architecture
- DFM/DFA principles and supplier collaboration
Benefits
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance (up to 100% covered)
- One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates
- Fertility and family building benefits via Progyny
- Flexible time off
- 401(k) matching
- Early-stage company culture with high ownership and impact
Likely interview questions
- Walk us through a battery pack or electromechanical product you designed from concept to production—what were the key thermal, structural, and electrical trade-offs?
- Describe your approach to designing for manufacturability from day one. Give an example of a design decision you made early that simplified production.
