About this role

Root Access, a NYC-based hardware startup, seeks an Electronics Engineer to lead circuit and PCB design from concept through production. You'll partner with the CTO to develop analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics while collaborating across firmware, mechanical, and test teams in a fast-paced AI-focused environment.

What you'll do

  • Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits from requirements and specifications
  • Create schematics, select components, and drive PCB layout with BOM management
  • Perform circuit simulation and analysis (SPICE) for power, signal integrity, and thermal considerations
  • Design power supplies, sensor interfaces, and communication subsystems (I²C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet)
  • Prototype bring-up and debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and lab equipment
  • Support DFM, cost reduction, and compliance activities (EMC/EMI, safety, regulatory)

What they're looking for

  • Schematic and PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence, KiCad)
  • Circuit simulation (SPICE) and analysis
  • Analog and digital circuit fundamentals
  • Power electronics and high-speed design
  • Lab instrumentation and hardware debugging
  • Signal integrity and power integrity analysis
  • Python or scripting for automation
  • EMC/regulatory compliance knowledge

Benefits

  • Work with patented hardware expertise from the CTO
  • Opportunity to pioneer electronics in the AI era
  • Collaborate with passionate electrical, firmware, software, and ML engineers
  • NYC-based startup backed by top hardware investors
  • Full product lifecycle ownership from concept to production

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through your most complex mixed-signal circuit design—what were the key challenges and how did you validate performance?
  • Describe your experience with signal and power integrity analysis. Which tools have you used and what issues have you caught?
