Skydio
Failure Analysis Engineer
About this role
Skydio seeks a Failure Analysis Engineer to investigate and resolve failures across drone systems, including PCBs, power electronics, batteries, sensors, and communication modules. The role requires performing root cause analysis, collaborating cross-functionally, and driving corrective actions to improve product reliability throughout the lifecycle.
What you'll do
- Perform detailed failure analysis on returned products, manufacturing defects, field failures, and reliability test failures
- Conduct systematic root cause analysis using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, FTA, FMEA, and Pareto Analysis
- Develop and execute diagnostic procedures, performing electrical measurements with oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and thermal cameras
- Identify failure trends using field and production data, recommending design improvements to enhance reliability
- Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) across Design, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, and Production teams
- Analyze component-level failures in ICs, MOSFETs, voltage regulators, capacitors, inductors, sensors, and connectors
What they're looking for
- Failure analysis and root cause investigation
- Electrical and electronic troubleshooting
- PCB and PCBA diagnostics
- Power electronics and battery management systems expertise
- Oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer, and thermal imaging proficiency
- Circuit schematic and PCB layout interpretation
- CAPA and reliability improvement methodologies
- Cross-functional collaboration and communication
