Build Reliability Engineer (Falcon/Starship Valves & Components)

Hawthorne, CA$100k–$117.5kmidAdded today

About this role

SpaceX seeks a Build Reliability Engineer to own hardware reliability across Falcon and Starship valve and component manufacturing. You'll develop production processes from scratch, identify and fix reliability gaps, collaborate with design and manufacturing teams, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring flight-critical quality standards.

What you'll do

  • Develop manufacturing, assembly, welding, NDE, and inspection processes; enforce consistency across work centers
  • Identify reliability gaps and implement solutions to improve reliability without compromising build rate
  • Partner with design and manufacturing teams to create quality plans, inspection strategies, and lessons-learned integration
  • Monitor product and process success during production ramp-up using quality and analysis tools
  • Conduct build quality reviews and drive design/process improvements to reduce risk and complexity
  • Investigate production, test, and flight failures to identify root causes and implement mitigations

What they're looking for

  • Manufacturing and assembly process development
  • Quality and reliability engineering tools (Lean, SPC, FMEA, root cause analysis)
  • Welding process knowledge and implementation
  • Aerospace components (valves, structures, avionics, thermal systems)
  • Inspection and metrology procedures
  • Tooling design and fixturing
  • Data analysis and visualization
  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a time you identified a manufacturing reliability issue and implemented a corrective action—what was your process?
  • How would you approach developing a new welding process for a critical valve component with tight tolerances?
