Mechanical Engineer (Starship Components Manufacturing)
About this role
SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and optimize manufacturing processes for critical flow control devices and actuators used in Starship and Super Heavy rockets. You'll work on components operating in extreme temperatures and pressures, focusing on simplifying production, implementing automation, and achieving zero-defect manufacturing at scale.
What you'll do
- Design factory layouts and manufacturing processes for valves, regulators, and actuators optimized for high-volume production
- Simplify assembly/test requirements, eliminate unnecessary parts, and implement targeted automation to accelerate production flow
- Collaborate with design engineers and vendors to ensure components are manufacturable and meet flight-readiness standards
- Develop and implement flight-like acceptance testing protocols including proof, leak, cryogenic, and functional checkouts
- Investigate production yield issues and defects to achieve zero workmanship defects and minimize fleet containments
- Establish work instructions, defect tracking systems, and visual production management tools for low-intervention operations
