About this role

Toast is seeking a Design Engineer for its New Ventures team to own design and front-end development of early-stage products from concept through production launch. You'll blend design thinking with strong coding skills, use AI tools to iterate rapidly, and translate complex workflows into intuitive, shipped experiences.

What you'll do

  • Own design and front-end engineering end-to-end for new ventures, from early concepts to production-quality releases
  • Write clean, maintainable front-end code while ensuring the experience feels intentional and polished where it matters most
  • Use AI tools to rapidly prototype, explore concepts, and accelerate design iteration from concept to coded flows
  • Design information-dense, scannable interfaces with clear hierarchy, progressive disclosure, and decision-oriented actions
  • Create high-fidelity prototypes and run validation tests—usability testing, dogfooding, and iterative refinement—to move fast
  • Communicate clearly through working prototypes, demos, and narratives that explain what you built, why it matters, and what you learned

What they're looking for

  • Front-end engineering and production-quality UI development
  • Design thinking and user flow design
  • Full-stack experience (preferred)
  • AI tool proficiency for exploration, prototyping, and coding
  • Complex workflow and data visualization simplification
  • UI component systems and maintainable code
  • Product thinking and business outcome alignment
  • Rapid prototyping and 0→1 product development
