Systems Engineer (Functional Safety) – Compute Platform Systems
About this role
Torc is seeking a Functional Safety Systems Engineer to develop and validate safety requirements for autonomous truck compute platforms. You'll conduct hazard analyses, safety assessments, and collaborate across hardware, software, and validation teams to establish a comprehensive functional safety case for Level 4 autonomous vehicles.
What you'll do
- Conduct hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA) to define and refine safety goals for autonomous truck systems
- Perform safety analyses including FMEA, FTA, DFA, and other inductive/deductive methods across hardware and software components
- Derive and document safety requirements ensuring designs meet ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 standards
- Maintain requirements traceability in DOORS and Jama databases
- Lead cross-functional design discussions on functional safety for embedded compute, sensors, and power distribution systems
- Develop verification and validation strategies in collaboration with component enablement and supplier teams
