Varda Space Industries
Space Mission Software Engineer
About this role
Varda seeks a Space Mission Software Engineer to develop and maintain ground segment software that enables spacecraft operations, including telemetry services, mission control interfaces, simulation tools, and deployment infrastructure. You'll work across lab, test, and mission operations environments to support in-orbit pharmaceutical processing and reentry vehicle missions.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain high-reliability ground segment services for telemetry ingestion, scaling, distribution, and commanding
- Design operator-grade mission control UIs and dashboards for integration, test, and on-orbit operations
- Build simulation frameworks and test automation tools for flight software and avionics teams
- Design and productionize mission platform software including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and observability tooling
- Create robust deployment patterns for lab, test range, and mission network environments with safe rollout/rollback strategies
- Collaborate with flight software, avionics, RF/ground systems, and mission ops teams
What they're looking for
- Python development with strong language fundamentals
- Real-time data acquisition, low-latency messaging, and time-series systems
- Systems design: concurrency, networking, performance, and reliability
- CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
- Mission control software and user interface design
- Spacecraft or safety-critical software development
- Simulation and test automation frameworks
- Deployment strategies for air-gapped or limited-connectivity environments
