Varda Space Industries
Spaceship Avionics Systems Engineer
About this role
Varda is seeking an Avionics Systems Engineer to design, integrate, and test avionics systems for the Winnebago Spaceship, a commercial orbital vehicle for pharmaceutical manufacturing and reentry operations. You'll collaborate across engineering teams to develop electrical architectures, conduct fault analysis, lead verification efforts, and support mission operations for both space and hypersonic reentry phases.
What you'll do
- Design electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, and mass allocation aligned with vehicle objectives
- Conduct fault and risk analysis, develop mitigation strategies, and implement Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) solutions
- Plan and execute comprehensive verification of avionics systems on flight and Hardware-In-The-Loop testbeds
- Oversee integration of Winnebago avionics systems and serve as primary contact for integrated systems investigations
- Design, build, and operate Hardware-In-The-Loop testbeds to simulate spacecraft systems on the ground
- Develop ground infrastructure including test racks and engineering support tools; mentor junior engineers
What they're looking for
- Electrical systems design and architecture
- Python programming and debugging
- Test planning and validation methodology
- Fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR)
- Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) testbed design and operation
- Systems integration and verification
- Spacecraft avionics or aerospace systems experience
- Cross-functional collaboration and technical communication
