About this role
Vast seeks a Manufacturing Engineer II in Long Beach to support development of avionics systems for commercial space stations and rocket engines. You'll optimize manufacturing processes, create assembly procedures, collaborate with design and quality teams, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with design teams to optimize manufacturability and assembly of avionics components and wire harnesses
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes and equipment, balancing efficiency, quality, and cost
- Create detailed manufacturing plans, assembly procedures, and work instructions for consistent production
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve manufacturing challenges
- Partner with suppliers to ensure quality component delivery and approve manufacturing processes
- Perform hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of avionics systems to specification

- Manufacturing engineering with 3+ years aerospace or avionics experience
- Vibration test fixture design and manufacturing
- Thermal heat sink and thermal vacuum fixture design
- CAD software proficiency (Siemens NX preferred)
- IPC standards and avionics electronics manufacturing knowledge
- SMC-S-016 standard understanding
- Root cause analysis and problem-solving
- Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
