Software Engineer, Mission Software

About this role

Vast is hiring a Software Engineer to develop mission-critical software systems for next-generation commercial space stations. You'll build full-stack web applications, backend services, and developer tools that interface with flight software while supporting the company's rapid growth and scaling challenges.

What you'll do

• Design and implement full-stack web applications using modern frontends, application servers, and microservices
• Build backend systems including data modeling, APIs, and supporting data pipelines
• Collaborate with Flight Software team to design interfaces between mission software and flight systems
• Develop developer tools and platforms to accelerate the SDLC across test automation, simulation, and deployment
• Iterate rapidly on tooling and new applications as the company scales
• Establish software practices and architectural patterns to support a growing codebase and team

What they're looking for

• Full-stack software development with complex, data-intensive applications
• Backend development including APIs, data modeling, and databases
• Production DevOps experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, or NextJS
• Multiple programming languages
• Time series data and database experience
• GraphQL and API design
• Infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform
