About this role
Vast is hiring a System Safety Engineer to develop safety analyses and hazard mitigation strategies for next-generation commercial space stations. You'll partner with engineering teams to ensure compliance with human-rating requirements and present safety findings to internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll do
- Conduct system safety analyses including functional hazard analyses, crew survivability studies, and human error assessments
- Document system hazards and design controls to mitigate risks to crew and mission
- Assess vehicle compliance with failure tolerance and human-rating requirements
- Participate in design reviews to communicate safety analysis results to engineering and external partners
- Identify design improvement opportunities that minimize risk exposure
- Perform range safety and external standards compliance assessments

- Compliance with Range Safety (91-710), NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, ARP-4761 standards

- Safety and mission assurance fundamentals
- Interpersonal skills and constructive feedback delivery
- Aerospace, aviation, or safety-critical industry experience
