Optical Engineer
About this role
Voyager Technology Systems seeks an experienced Optical Engineer to design and deliver cutting-edge optical systems for space and national security applications, including cameras, star trackers, and laser communications. The role spans the full development lifecycle from optical requirements and design through testing and manufacturing support, requiring deep expertise in optical simulation tools and hands-on lab experience.
What you'll do
- Decompose optical requirements and plan verification strategies for space and defense systems
- Perform optical performance analysis, stray light analysis (FRED), and structural-thermal-optical performance (STOP) modeling
- Design optical systems using Zemax OpticStudio, including tolerancing and Monte Carlo analysis
- Generate optical element drawings, manufacturing specifications, and assembly instructions for production
- Develop and execute optical test plans and procedures; characterize high-performance optical sensors
- Design and fabricate test hardware such as star simulators and collimator sources to validate algorithms

- SolidWorks or equivalent CAD for opto-mechanical packaging

- Technical drawing and manufacturing documentation authoring
- CMOS sensor characterization and star tracker architectures (preferred)
