About this role

Vulcan Elements seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop custom manufacturing equipment for a major rare-earth magnet production facility expansion in North Carolina. You will lead the full lifecycle from concept through production, working on specialized machinery that translates pilot processes into industrial-scale equipment.

What you'll do

  • Design custom mechanical and electrical systems for proprietary magnet production equipment from the ground up
  • Collaborate with fabrication and machine shops to source components, manage timelines, and oversee build quality
  • Provide on-site support during assembly, wiring, and testing to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly
  • Conduct FEA, thermal, and CFD analyses to validate equipment performance in demanding industrial environments
  • Partner with Process, Quality, and Operations teams to incorporate design feedback and DFM principles
  • Ensure all equipment meets safety, environmental, and ergonomics compliance standards
