About this role

Waymo seeks a System Safety Engineer to lead safety analyses and risk assessments for autonomous driving software, ensuring hazards are identified, mitigated, and validated throughout the vehicle development lifecycle. You'll collaborate cross-functionally to embed safety into design decisions, define safety requirements, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

What you'll do

  • Conduct inductive/deductive safety analyses to identify hazards, assess risks, and propose mitigations for onboard software
  • Participate in design reviews and readiness assessments to verify safety requirements and mitigation effectiveness
  • Define and implement System Safety processes while promoting safety culture across the organization
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of risk control strategies and support identification of new hazards in the field
  • Provide guidance on adoption of safety standards, industry best practices, and regulatory compliance
  • Integrate System Safety methodology with other Waymo safety framework components
