About this role
Waymo seeks a System Safety Engineer to lead safety analyses and risk assessments for autonomous driving software, ensuring hazards are identified, mitigated, and validated throughout the vehicle development lifecycle. You'll collaborate cross-functionally to embed safety into design decisions, define safety requirements, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
What you'll do
- Conduct inductive/deductive safety analyses to identify hazards, assess risks, and propose mitigations for onboard software
- Participate in design reviews and readiness assessments to verify safety requirements and mitigation effectiveness
- Define and implement System Safety processes while promoting safety culture across the organization
- Evaluate the effectiveness of risk control strategies and support identification of new hazards in the field
- Provide guidance on adoption of safety standards, industry best practices, and regulatory compliance
- Integrate System Safety methodology with other Waymo safety framework components
