About this role
Waymo seeks a System Safety Engineer to lead cross-functional safety program planning and execution across autonomous vehicle development. You'll establish safety baselines, govern readiness criteria across platforms, and serve as the executive interface for safety strategy at a company pioneering fully autonomous ride-hail technology.
What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end program planning, milestone roadmapping, and OKR definition across the System Safety organization
- Spearhead safety workstreams for new strategic programs, translating vehicle goals into actionable safety deliverables
- Establish and execute Safety Baseline and Delta approach for product expansions and novel capabilities
- Track and govern safety readiness criteria across multiple vehicle platforms, resolving critical-path bottlenecks
- Standardize safety processes, develop automated workflows and dashboards to reduce engineering overhead
- Serve as primary safety interface to executives, Product Management, and Systems Engineering, synthesizing risk assessments into clear summaries

- Complex cross-functional technical program management
- Autonomous vehicle systems architecture and V&V methodologies
- Jira, Buganizer/TaskFlow, and project management frameworks
- Safety case development (Claims-Arguments-Evidence) and STPA/HARA
- Executive communication and stakeholder alignment
- Data modeling, Python/SQL, and metrics dashboard development
