About this role
Xaira Therapeutics seeks a hands-on Automation Engineer Contractor to program, operate, and maintain liquid handling platforms and integrated laboratory workcells supporting protein production and analytical workflows. You'll ensure reliable automation operations through protocol translation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and cross-functional collaboration in a biotech environment focused on AI-driven drug discovery.
What you'll do
- Program, modify, test, and operate liquid handling methods while preparing labware, monitoring runs, and documenting deviations
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance, calibration checks, and light repairs on laboratory instruments and integrated workcells
- Operate integrated automation systems including liquid handlers, plate storage, analytical instruments, and scheduling software
- Maintain SOPs, troubleshooting guides, maintenance records, and operating documentation
- Support sample tracking, run documentation, and data transfer to LIMS, ELN, and downstream systems
- Train and support scientists and operators on automation equipment use and coordinate service with manufacturers

- Python, C#, or similar laboratory automation programming languages
- Laboratory instrument maintenance and calibration
- Molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, plate-reader assays, HPLC)
- LIMS and ELN systems experience
- Technical documentation and SOP writing
- Hamilton liquid handlers operation (preferred)
- Integrated automation workcell orchestration platforms (preferred)
