Zone 5 Technologies
Propulsion Engineer IV
About this role
Zone 5 Technologies seeks a Propulsion Engineer IV to design, analyze, and test propulsion systems for unmanned aircraft and tactical systems. You'll work across the product lifecycle—from concept through production—collaborating with airframe, guidance, systems, and manufacturing teams to ensure reliable performance under demanding flight conditions.
What you'll do
- Design and analyze propulsion systems (solid, liquid, hybrid) from concept through qualification across multiple programs
- Perform internal ballistics, structural, and thermal analysis of motor cases, nozzles, propellant grains, and igniters
- Develop and validate propulsion performance models including thrust profiles, specific impulse, and motor integration effects
- Contribute to vehicle-level design and multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) with propulsion models and trade studies
- Support static fire, hot fire, and flight test campaigns including planning, instrumentation, and data reduction
- Advise design engineers on propulsion hardware approaches and contribute to propulsion design standards
What they're looking for
- Solid rocket motor design and analysis
- Internal ballistics and performance modeling
- Structural and thermal analysis (FEA/CFD)
- Propellant grain and nozzle design
- Test planning and instrumentation
- Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO)
- Systems integration and requirements analysis
- MATLAB, ANSYS, or equivalent simulation tools
