Problem

You are given a large integer represented as an integer array digits, where each digits[i] is the ith digit of the integer. Increment the large integer by one and return the resulting array of digits.

Constraints

  • 1 <= digits.length <= 100
  • 0 <= digits[i] <= 9
  • digits does not contain leading zeros except for the value 0.

Examples

Example 1

Input
digits = [1,2,3]
Output
[1,2,4]

Example 2

Input
digits = [9]
Output
[1,0]

Approaches

1. Convert to number

Join digits, parse, add one, split. Fails for very large numbers.

O(n)
const n = BigInt(digits.join('')) + 1n;
return String(n).split('').map(Number);

2. Right-to-left with carry

Walk from end, set 0 on carry, increment on first <9 and return early.

Time
O(n)
Space
O(1)
function plusOne(digits) {
  for (let i = digits.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
    if (digits[i] < 9) { digits[i]++; return digits; }
    digits[i] = 0;
  }
  return [1, ...digits];
}

Chime-specific tips

Chime uses arbitrary-precision arithmetic for cents-level balance math; demonstrate carry-propagation rigor as you would handle cents-to-dollar rollover in ledger entries.
