Research Engineer
About this role
Antimetal is seeking a Research Engineer to develop intelligent systems for infrastructure management, focusing on AI agents that detect, diagnose, and remediate infrastructure issues. You'll prototype novel approaches, run experiments, and shepherd work from research through production, collaborating with platform and product teams.
What you'll do
- Run experiments across infrastructure intelligence, autonomous agents, and evaluation research areas, then iterate and ship successful approaches to production
- Build and own evaluation infrastructure including live/offline pipelines, benchmarks, and synthetic data generation tooling
- Explore and apply techniques from AI agents, ML, and SRE research to solve complex infrastructure modeling and reasoning problems
- Prototype new agent architectures, multi-step reasoning approaches, and orchestration strategies for long-running parallel agents
- Partner with platform and product teams to integrate research capabilities into scalable, production-ready services
- Develop evaluation methodology and tools to measure progress on agent performance and inform iteration
What they're looking for
- Applied machine learning and research engineering with 4+ years production experience
- Agentic and LLM systems including multi-step reasoning, reinforcement learning, fine-tuning, and orchestration
- ML fundamentals: statistical modeling, probabilistic methods, time-series analysis, evaluation methodology
- End-to-end evaluation pipeline construction and execution with real-world data
- Python and TypeScript proficiency with ML libraries and data engineering tools
- Infrastructure domain expertise, telemetry analysis, or SRE background
- Prototype-to-production development using data and experimentation to drive decisions
- Problem-solving with focus on maintainable, scalable code and iterative development
