Mechanical Systems Design Engineer
About this role
Astro Mechanica seeks a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer to drive airframe integration and component hardware development for a supersonic demonstrator aircraft. You'll own designs from concept through flight test, performing analyses, managing supplier relationships, and collaborating across propulsion, structures, and avionics teams in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
What you'll do
- Conduct trade studies and first-order analyses to inform component design and system architecture decisions
- Complete detailed component designs, drawings, and validation through structural, thermal, and fluid analyses
- Collaborate with propulsion, structures, avionics, controls, and manufacturing teams on integration
- Specify, select, and qualify off-the-shelf and custom components with suppliers
- Develop and conduct hardware test plans to verify requirements and performance metrics
- Provide hands-on support during prototyping, vehicle builds, ground testing, and flight campaigns

- 3D CAD (NX, CATIA V5, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
- Structural, thermal, and fluid mechanics analysis
- GD&T and precision measurement
- Manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability
- Hardware fabrication, assembly, and testing experience
- Systems integration and cross-functional collaboration
- Technical documentation and safety/hazard analysis
- First-principles problem solving
