Bedrock Robotics
Embedded Software Engineer, Onboard Platform
About this role
Bedrock is seeking a Senior or Staff Embedded Software Engineer to build safety-critical software for autonomous heavy construction equipment. You'll develop the embedded control layer that manages machinery operation and system health in harsh, remote environments with limited connectivity.
What you'll do
- Build safety-critical embedded software with strict isolation and deterministic real-time execution
- Develop full embedded stack including drivers, RTOS, communication protocols, middleware, and applications
- Design hardware abstraction layers to control diverse heavy machinery across manufacturers and models
- Extend platform capabilities for field devices handling power management, sensor maintenance, and lighting
- Debug and automate across hardware/software boundaries in production systems
- Lead technical design decisions and collaborate across hardware, autonomy, and platform teams
What they're looking for
- Embedded systems design and shipping (robotics, automotive, or safety-critical contexts)
- C++ or Rust programming for embedded systems
- Python scripting and system analysis
- Real-time operating systems and resource-constrained development
- CAN, Ethernet, and automotive/industrial protocols (preferred)
- Functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, DO-178C preferred)
- Hardware debugging and integration
- Cross-team technical leadership
