Internship 2027 Validation & Verification Test Engineer
About this role
Join Bedrock's Validation & Verification team as an internship to close the simulation-to-reality gap for autonomous construction equipment. You'll design and execute black-box tests on hardware actuators, collect real-world data, and feed findings back to controls and simulation engineers to improve machine models.
What you'll do
- Develop and execute black-box test plans to characterize actuator behavior on machines and test stands
- Instrument hardware, set up data acquisition systems, and collect clean datasets
- Measure actuator response characteristics including latency, deadband, hysteresis, and saturation across varying conditions
- Compare real machine data against simulation outputs to quantify and document divergences
- Provide concrete model improvement recommendations to controls and simulation teams
- Automate test execution and reporting workflows

- Python for data analysis and test automation
- Controls or system identification fundamentals
- Sensors, data acquisition (DAQ), and test bench experience
- Mechanical or electrical hardware troubleshooting
- Data collection and clean dataset generation
- Hydraulics or heavy equipment (preferred)
- Robotics simulators: Isaac, MuJoCo, Gazebo (preferred)
- ROS or robotics middleware (preferred)
