About this role
Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Fiber Optics Manufacturing Engineer to develop and scale manufacturing processes for fiber optic cables and assemblies used in fusion energy systems. You'll bridge hands-on fiber optic expertise with robust process engineering, collaborating across production, design, quality, and supply chain teams to achieve high-yield, reliable manufacturing at two Massachusetts locations.
What you'll do
- Design and optimize manufacturing processes for fiber optic cables and assemblies
- Develop tooling, documentation, and process controls for production scale-up
- Collaborate with fiber optic specialists and production technicians on process implementation
- Work with quality and test teams to ensure high yields and product reliability
- Coordinate with supply chain and cross-functional engineering teams on material and process improvements
- Transition fiber optic products from development into repeatable, high-volume production
