R&D Engineer - High Voltage
About this role
Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks an R&D Engineer to design, develop, and test high voltage systems for superconducting magnets used in fusion reactors. You'll lead research on high voltage transients and vacuum effects, execute test campaigns, and collaborate across teams to support the SPARC and ARC magnet programs.
What you'll do
- Design and develop high voltage protection schemes for superconducting magnets with focus on Paschen effect in vacuum
- Execute and manage test campaigns to validate high voltage systems and transient behavior
- Lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) analysis and testing to resolve magnet-related issues
- Design, build, and commission test equipment and software for qualification and production testing
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, procurement, and SPARC integration teams to meet aggressive schedules
- Challenge and refine test requirements, risks, and objectives to ensure data relevance and test necessity
